In this episode of Surrogate Sharers, we tackle the awkward topic of Name Blanking. And before you describe this one as "harsh," try to see it as our take on the practice of blameshifting. ...or...just rate it 5-stars and don't think at all :)
Comment below-- how do You get people's names out of them?
PS- See you tonight at 9pm ET for the RhettandLinKast Live.
Definately the best of all the Surrogate Sharers videos...I was laughing the whole way through.
My fav part...when Rhett leans toward that camera and says
'what are you stupid?'
Nice stuff

i like how you say you've called him "dude, man, bro, and hombre, and pal..."
most of the time, if i forget, i'll just call them: chief, bro, brotherman, broski, broseph, broem, or man.
i usually dont forget their names, except when i call them on the phone and i forget who im calling

The ther day I forgot my cousin's husband's name,haha
All I said was "Hey...you..." and then had to pull aother family member into the next room andask what his name was.Haha...

I overcame the name problem today. Was proud of myself and my sneaky method of screen peeking and seeing the folder name she had to add for a project we were doing on the computer. Beth! I knew it!

I usually just tell them "Hey...I'm sorry but your name escapes me. I'm really bad at remembering these things *laugh* What is it again?" Then you smile waiting for an awkward reply.
OR
You can try to sneak peeps at their IDs.
Once, I sat near rthe person and waited for them to call him something. Lol.

Hahaha. I actually needed to send this to one of my friends.
I know her name, but we were having a conversation about this the other night...
And usually, the Introduce-him/her-to-a-friend trick works.
And when all else fails, just ask around.
lol.

Well, you could always make-up a false petition and tell the person that they are so incredibly special that you want them to be the first to sign. You then proceed to tell them that you want their name to be extra legiable so they can be remembered in the depths of history. All you need is a good idea that the person couldn't refuse to support!
If I'm really struggling to remember someones name, I usually ask someone else what it is. If it comes to it, I'll "pretend" to have a memory lapse and ask the person even though I really forgot...

these are so awesome!

I don't really know how I do it.
I'm freakishly good with names. I think in my whole life I've only forgotten someone's name maybe once or twice, if at all. If I hear your name once, I know it for life. Even your last name. It's sort of creepy for the other person though. They have no idea who I am and yet I know their full name...and their birthday most of the time. I'm REALLY good with birthdays...

We have a neighbor who walks his dogs by daily, and will stop and chat. We missed his name at the beginning, so are way past asking again. I finally decide I would ask other people on the road-and you know what, not ONE person remembers his name! Not even the people right next to him, and across the street. Pathetic, HUH??!
Great series!!

This is very relevant, its terrible when u pass the point of when u can still ask and u still have no clue what theyre name is!maybe people shud wear name tags.

Love it! Reminds me of the "Mulva/Delores" Seinfeld episode!

I jokingly walk up to the people who I can't remember their name and I say..."Well Hello there, I'm Steve, and it's nice to meet you!"
about 7 times out of 10 they'll play along and say their name in the same manner...
however, the other three usually smack me in the head

This exact same thing happened to me my freshman year! I had class with this girl for about 3 months before I found out what her name was.
We were taking a quiz and I told her I would take her paper up to the front for her, then looked at her name on the way up!
You can also ask people to text you, then when they do it's usually the "hey it's ____. what's up?" message.
I think this is might be my favorite video so far!

I normally just ask them if I'm friends with them on Facebook.
Whenever they say no, I ask "well, how do you spell your name on your page? Like, I use Dan instead of Daniel, so you wont probably find me."
If they answer yes, I say "really? I was looking for you on my friends list, and I couldnt find you." and take it on from there.
If they say "I dont have a facebook, but I have a MySpace" then thats when you stop hanging out with them. JK
But thats usually how I do it.

This video series is GREAT! I am bad with remembering names but even worse with recognizing faces, especially when I see people I should know outside the place I normally see them. The gal who cuts my hair, the guy from Starbucks, the mailman...I recognize them at the salon, or Starbucks or at the mailbox but if I meet them at WalMart and they say 'HI' I am lost. Once I didn't recognize a co-worker when she came in to pick up her paycheck wearing her street clothes instead of her work uniform...I know, that's pretty sad. :(

once I pretended I was practicing my cursive, and I asked them how they wrote their name. their name was abby. so this worked for me =)
olivia · Nov 13, 2008 10:27am
Once I was trying to get creative, so I asked these two "friends" of mine how they spelled their names. Unfortunately their names were Ben and Jill...so they saw right through my not-so-clever scheme.
